The Bedlam, 2015-2016
Found materials and objects from abandoned hospitals and mental institutes, pills, old medical record books from Hangzhou hospitals, clothes, my friend Zhang Yang's grandfather's old television set, drawing materials.
An 18"x24" handmade accordion book with a red fabric cover, encompassing the artworks made by the residents of Home for People with Special Needs, Maldives.

left, lost, unknown
unnoticed
uncared for
seeping into thin air
deteriorating with the structure

The Bedlam is a room reimagined. Free and wild. The walls are talking, and the chairs are laughing.
This installation is based on interviews, interactions, and collaborative art-making sessions with residents of Home for People with Special Needs in Guraidhoo, Maldives. With full consent from both the institution and its residents, the installation features a compilation of artworks created by the residents during the sessions. The walls draw inspiration from both these artworks and the visual motifs found in vandalized and abandoned structures in Hangzhou, China. All furniture, objects and materials ( except the pills, medical record books, clothes, television set and drawing materials) are found and collected from these abandoned sites.
Permanent collection of China Academy of Art, Hangzhou, China.
